Meet Oscar & Eddie the Otters

When Oscar the otter arrives at Living Sky, he represents one of the most beautiful and most challenging creatures the team has ever had to deal with.

Otters are incredibly adept at surviving on land and are amazing acrobats in the water. But Oscar was orphaned at a young age and found on the edge of a lake by a Conservation Officer. His life had barely begun when he was left to figure out how to become an otter on his own.

Oscar is just the second otter that Jan has ever attempted to rehabilitate, and she knows she’s going to need outside help. She enlists an expert to help her figure out how to feed him.

Her attachment to him only grows when he becomes sick and has to go to the vet. And when he struggles under the effects of the anesthesia he’s given, her anxiety only grows.

He is joined by another otter named Eddie and both winter with Living Sky. As Season 3 opens, these two lively creatures are now fully grown, aggressive, rowdy, and ready for the wild.

For Oscar and Eddie, the epic journey to freedom will cross hundreds of kilometres as they are returned to a northern lake. It will be a trial for the otters, and for Jan and Emma, the human caregivers who have given up so much to keep the pair alive and safe through the winter.

Will Oscar and Eddie survive the journey up north and be able to leave their human mamas behind forever? Find out in season 3 of Staying Wild.
